World No.24 and Australian Open Quarterfinalist Andrea Petkovic is ready for title mirth by the virtue of her impressive form this year and she takes a step closer towards that goal by facing American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the quarterfinal match at the 2011 Open GDF Suez, a WTA premier event being played here in Paris France.
Petkovic has one WTA singles title to her name wheich she won almost two years ago in Bad Gastein. However, this year seems to have brought the best out of her as apart from a last eight finish in Melbourne, Petkovic won both her singles rubbers in the Fed Cup playoffs against Slovenia and helped Germany win the tie.
Petkovic's opponent Bethanie Mattek-Sands, at 25, is still seeking her maiden WTA singles title. Mattek-Sands surprised everyone including the woman on the verge of being crowned the new No.1, Kim Clijsters when she took a set from the Belgian star at the Fed Cup playoff. Although, her efforts were demolished by the four time major champion who made an instant recovery to win the match, Mattek-Sands' exceptional shotmaking did not go unnoticed.
Both players have met only once with Petkovic clinching win in the Grand Slam match up at the US Open in three gruelling sets. After taking into consideration the current form of these two, it is difficult to predict a winner. Kvitova however has a clear edge of experience that might fetch her a tough win and a place in the semifinals.
